Sometimes we’re asked to film a performance for archival purposes. This can be tricky with a single camera because if you shoot wide, than you gain the archive of the entire performance, however, you loose the intimate feeling with each performer. On the other hand, if you shoot close, you only get some performers and you miss others.

At WPRNY, we approach this with a sensitivity to the music and performance to attempt to anticipate where to put the camera. We try to get each performer close at least once and we try to be wide when the ensemble is in unison. That said, it is not always possible. If you need the flexibility of choosing camera later, we suggest a two or three camera shoot.
